ATV Friendly
Motel Ely is snowmobile and ATV friendly, offering off-street truck and trailer parking in our overflow parking lot located across the street next to the Holiday Gas Station. We can accommodate most off-highway vehicles, individual snowmobiles, open and enclosed snowmobile trailers, ATVs, other off-road vehicles, and ATV trailers.
We want to remind our guests of the Minnesota Snowmobile Regulations that all snowmobiles require registration, either from Minnesota or the snowmobiler’s home state. Additionally, non-residents operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), off-highway motorcycle (OHM) or off-road vehicle (ORV) on state or grant-in-aid trails, must purchase a Non-Resident Trail Pass.
Sections 8.08 and 8.09 of the City of Ely Code limits where and how ATVs and snowmobiles may be ridden with the city limits. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us!

Pet Policy & Etiquette
We have four rooms where we allow pets, but we do charge an extra $15 if a pet stays with you.
Taking pets on the road means you will have to find accommodations that will welcome your furry friends. Knowing and keeping yourself aware of pet etiquette can make the difference in being welcomed and even invited back and being asked to leave. Follow these tips to make the best of your trip for you, your pet as well as others you’ll come in contact with.
- Never show up with a pet unannounced without checking the pet policies where you’ll be staying.
- Keep identification on your pet as well as recent photos and vet records in your luggage.
- Keep your pet on a leash when out of the hotel room to respect other guests as well as protect your pet.
- Bring your pet’s comfort items such as bedding, toys, treats, water/food bowls, etc.
- If your dog barks frequently, other guests might be disturbed, so consider leaving your pet at home.
- After walking your pet, clean up after their mess.
- If leaving your pet in your room alone, keep them contained since maids will likely service your room. Also, leave on a television or radio to keep them company.
- Bring covers for furniture or beds to keep shedding to a minimum. Lint brushes work great to remove hair from the room.
- Consider feeding your pet in the bathroom and avoid carpet to minimize messes while eating and drinking.
- Be considerate of others when they are around your pets. Many will reach to touch your pet and might frighten them, causing them to nip at the stranger.
- You can minimize any problems by taking a few precautions. Remember, it is better to avoid injury rather than enter a legal battle.
Keeping these tips in mind while traveling with your pet can make a much more pleasant trip for everyone. Others will greatly appreciate your consideration and your pet will enjoy the vacation as much as anyone will. Taking a few precautions can make it a better trip for everyone.
